All linear loads consume energy as per the voltage supplied to them. In case the voltage is reduced to say 10-20% of the specified voltage, then we can easily save 10-20% on our electricity bill without sacrificing much on the performance as all gadgets are designed to perform at a specific output, which may be more than our requirement. But as we don't know how to control it, we keep on paying for that extra portion of that output we are receiving, but we don't need. In such cases, if we control and save this portion of the excess supply we don't need than we would be saving that money. Voltage optimization is the answer of the hour to all such requirements.

What is Voltage Optimization?

The voltage optimization optimizes the voltage supplied to the gadgets considering the output required by us. For instance, if you are using incandescent lamps than either we can use 100 W lamp or 60 W lamp.
But what to do in case your requirement is for between both of them, then either you would be wasting some light if you go for 100 W; otherwise you would be sacrificing something on your requirement if you would be using 60 W lamp.
The answer is to go for voltage optimization and to reduce the supplied voltage to the lamp by 10%. It will give you the correct light you require without forcing you to bear the glare of the extra light which you were forced to accept earlier. Secondly, it will also result in reducing your electricity bill by 10%. So, on the one hand, you are saving your money, and on the other hand, you are adding to your convenience. What else you need, you got icing on your cake.

Is Voltage optimization applicable to all type of loads?

No, it is not so.
Voltage optimization applies only to the linear loads that are resistive. Their performance is directly proportional to the voltage supplied to a certain degree. If the voltage supplied to your premises is 10-20% lower, then you would be saving on money by 10-20%. But if you drop the voltage by a higher percentage than in that case you would be drastically compromising on the performance of the equipment. Otherwise, if you would be supplying a higher voltage, then the specified one to your appliances, then you would be silently overheating the equipment in addition to shortening its life.
Non-linear loads such as inductive loads are dynamic loads, and they try to give the same output irrespective of the voltage supplied. For instance, if under voltage is supplied to an induction motor, then it will draw the higher current at less voltage to deliver the rated output. The higher current drawn would lead to overheating of the motor and if continued, would burn the motor. On the other hand, if a higher voltage runs the motor, then it won't run on the higher rpm but would burn away because of higher stress on the insulation's winding, that will lead to the short-circuiting.
But, what one can do is, to run the motor on the specified permissible low voltage rather than on higher allowable voltage. In such a case if you are running industry with a large number of motors than running motors on lower voltage would result in a significant saving on your money bills.

So, how you can achieve it?

You could install a servo voltage stabilizer after the incoming supply and can set the voltage at say 200 Volts to always supply 200 V to the equipment irrespective of the utility voltage. It will ensure lower electricity bills by 10-15% than what you would be paying otherwise. The supply voltage primarily hovers between 240V-200V, even more, if you are in some industrial or rural sector.
This will, on the one hand, save your equipment from burnt outs because of considerable variations in the supplied voltage and on the other hand, would save significant money for you on your electricity bills.
It will rather keep your industry run smoothly throughout the year without suffering breakdowns and will result in extending the life of your machinery along with drastically cutting on your maintenance and spare parts costs.
